Custom boxwood hedge enclosure at Irwindale Speedway

Custom boxwood hedge enclosure at Irwindale Speedway

Project Snapshot

This installation features our boxwood hedge walls solution for a corporate events event format. For this project, Evergreen Event Rental handled design alignment, delivery, setup, and strike.

Case Study

Evergreen Event Rental built a large, modular artificial boxwood hedge enclosure at Irwindale Speedway in Irwindale, CA. 175 4x4 hedge panels with UV-resistant materials, planned for smooth delivery, setup, pickup, and fast event-day flow.

For an event at Irwindale Speedway, Evergreen Event Rental built a large custom enclosure using artificial boxwood hedge rentals. The modular setup carved out a clear customer area while keeping entry and exit easy for event-day flow.

Overview

Evergreen Event Rental was hired to build a custom enclosure with artificial boxwood hedges at Irwindale Speedway in Irwindale, California. The ask was simple: create a dedicated customer area that felt intentional, looked clean on camera, and could go up and come down on a tight event schedule.

The enclosure was designed with an overall footprint of roughly 180' wide by 170' high, with an entrance/exit opening of about 18'–20' (built into both the top and bottom runs). This was a rentals-first build—modular panels, logistics planning, delivery and pickup, and a finished look that feels “built for the event,” not like standard pipe-and-drape.

The Challenge

Speedway venues are huge, exposed, and always moving. The client needed a large perimeter that clearly separated “inside” from “outside” without creating a guest bottleneck.

Then there was the scale. An enclosure this big only works if the panel count is right, there’s enough space to stage materials, and the install order is tight so the crew isn’t scrambling for parts halfway through.

And since it was outdoors, the greenery had to keep its color and finish in direct sun for the duration of the event. That meant specifying UV-resistant artificial boxwood panels instead of anything that could fade or start looking rough by day two.

Our Solution

We designed a custom enclosure using modular artificial boxwood hedge rentals, built from 175 individual 4' x 4' panels. Going modular kept the footprint adaptable, while still giving the client a continuous wall of greenery that reads as one connected surface.

We didn’t fully close the perimeter. Instead, we built in an 18'–20' entrance/exit opening (at both the top and bottom runs) so the area stayed defined without pushing everyone through a single choke point.

Materials were chosen for outdoor use. UV-resistant construction helped the panels stay consistent in full sun—especially at Irwindale Speedway, where shade is limited.

Implementation

The project ran on a two-month timeline, with onsite logistics built around a 9/01 drop-off and a 9/04 pickup at Irwindale Speedway (500 Speedway Dr, Irwindale, CA 91706). Delivery and pickup were included, so the client’s team didn’t have to spend time coordinating transportation or return timing.

On install day, our crew staged the 4' x 4' panels for quick counts and a clean build sequence, then assembled the enclosure to the planned dimensions (about 180' x 170') while maintaining the designed openings. On large builds, consistency is what makes it look finished—straight runs, tight alignment, and clean corners from every viewing angle.

Teardown was set for a defined pickup window (9/04), which is often where outdoor venues can get messy. We planned the removal so the area could be cleared quickly without stretching out the client’s strike.

Results

The finished enclosure created an immediately usable area—clear boundaries for customers and staff, with a visual perimeter that didn’t require carpentry or permanent site changes. The modular hedge walls gave the client a space that felt intentionally laid out, while the planned entry/exit openings kept it open and easy to access.

Operationally, it stayed on track: 175 panels were delivered, installed, and removed on the scheduled dates. The client got the custom-build look they were after, with the flexibility of rentals and a finish that holds up better than many temporary outdoor dividers.

The final setup looked polished while still working for a speedway environment: straightforward circulation, clean sightlines, and a consistent green backdrop that reads well in photos and video.
