Afrotech 2024 needed two separate client areas built quickly inside the Houston conference footprint. Evergreen Event Rental delivered and installed 100+ modular artificial hedge panels to create clean, defined spaces that looked finished from every side.

Overview

Afrotech 2024 filled the Houston show floor fast, and multiple brands needed spaces that felt planned—not thrown together. The request was simple: carve out two separate areas for two end clients inside the Houston conference center, using rental greenery that could go in quickly and still look good in photos.

Evergreen Event Rental supplied modular artificial hedge panels with a dense, consistent look. We used double-sided hedges so the boundaries read clean from both directions, which matters when attendees can come at them from any aisle.

The Challenge

The client had to claim and define space for two of their clients inside an active conference environment. On a show floor, “space” isn’t just square footage—it’s sightlines, traffic flow, and how fast you can draw a clear line between one activation and the next.

They also needed something that could be planned and executed on a tight timeline (3 weeks) and still feel like an intentional design choice. And since this was Houston, the greenery had to hold up under bright venue lighting—artificial hedges only work if the color stays true and they don’t look sparse up close.

Our Solution

We worked directly with the client’s point of contact to lay out two areas that matched what each end client needed—privacy where it mattered, open entry points where it made sense, and a footprint that didn’t block aisle traffic.

The solution centered on a high volume of modular artificial hedges, mixing 4' x 4' and 4' x 8' panels and using double-sided panels anywhere the hedge would be seen from both sides. We prioritized UV-resistant materials to help the color stay consistent and keep the look uniform through the event.

Implementation

After the layout was approved, we scheduled delivery to the Houston conference center around event access windows and onsite constraints (freight routes, dock appointments, and crew timing usually determine whether install day goes smoothly). Delivery and pickup were included, so the client didn’t have to coordinate separate logistics.

Our crew staged the hedge panels, built the boundaries in sections, then dialed in alignment so the seams read like continuous greenery instead of a row of separate units. We kept everything modular on purpose—when show conditions shift, modular builds can be adjusted without starting over.

After the event, teardown and pickup followed the venue’s move-out schedule to keep the exhibitor area clear and avoid stacking labor with other vendors.

Results

The finished install created two instant client areas—clear edges, clean backdrops, and defined footprints so attendees could tell exactly where each space started and ended. Because the walls were double-sided, they looked finished from both directions, which makes a real difference on a conference floor.

The client got a polished design look without waiting on a custom fabrication timeline. And since it was rental-based, the event team could stay focused on programming and staffing instead of handling materials, transport, and post-show removal.
